thus obscuring the relative impact of the missionaries of the 1820 in contributing to both acculturalization and resistance to it among the Cherokee.  比較有問題的可能在這裡thus obscuring….，thus一個類似因果關係的副詞，後面obscuring是由關係代名詞限定用法來的，原本是which obscured……，然後在翻譯上，which就是代稱前面那整句話，做『而這件事』模糊了.......。

接著in contributing to both acculturalization and resistance to it among the Cherokee.  介詞結構繼續延生說明在什麼方面的衝擊，在於both A and B的供獻上，這裡both A and B平行結構包含同化還有抵抗同化上，這是發生在Cherokee這群人身上的衝擊。

邏輯：
