GRE,GMAT,SAT

However, as they gained cohesion, the Bluestockings came to regard themselves as a women’s group and to possess a sense of female solidarity lacking in the salonnieres, who remained isolated from one another by the primacy each held in her own salon.

第二:as they gained cohesion,這當中as=when,代名詞they the Bluestockings

第三:主句構就這樣而已,the Bluestockings came to regard themselves as a women’s group and to possess a sense of female solidaritysolidarity後面的都是修飾語,所以這個主結構由and帶出兩個重點,第一是視他們自己為女團第二是擁有女性團結感。

第四:其實上面看完就可以接著看下一句話了,之後修飾語都不是什麼重點,a sense of female solidarity lacking in the salonnieres,這句話是關係代名詞限定用法的省略方式,先行詞是a sense of female solidarity,然後後面還原應該是which lack in the salonnieres,所以就是形容這個sensesalonnieres所沒有的。

然後第五: the salonnieres, who remained isolated from one another by the primacy each held in her own salon. 這句, who remained isolated…

第六:the primacy each held in her own salon.這裡最後再來個關係帶名詞限定用法來結尾,還原就是the primacy which was each held in her own salon,當中her代名詞等於salonnieres的這人,大致上就是覺得自己很屌很牛B就是了。

Bluestockingscohesiongroupsolidarity

然而salonnieres isolated

However, as they gained cohesion, the Bluestockings came to regard themselves as a women’s group and to possess a sense of female solidarity lacking in the salonnieres, who remained isolated from one another by the primacy each held in her own salon.

Cohesion (n.) 聚合力=adherence / attachment

Cohesive (adj.)

Solidarity (n.) 團結一致= consolidation / camaraderie / unity / unification / harmony

possess (v.) 擁有=own / acquire / bear / hold / occupy / carry / enjoy

#:salonnieres.

原意:A salonniere is a party host. The term was first used to describe the women in 17th and 18th century France who hosted parties—called salons—in their homes to celebrate and promote the most important writers, philosophers, and artists of the day.
