One argument against my contention asserts that, by nature, textbooks are culturally biased and that I am simple underestimating children’s ability to see through these biases.

第一：

argument和contention這個在中文翻譯都是表爭論，感覺有反面的意思，那是因為後面還加了一些能夠讓這個argument和contention（概念名詞）有一個對立點出現的時候，才會翻成爭論，不然他們倆的含義只不過是一個論點，一個說法而已。回到本句內容上，argument後方有個against出現，這就表示有對立點出現了，against後面加上contention，即表示兩個概念性名詞所持的觀點是對立的，而contention後面沒有任何東西做補充，所以是為某人的說法觀點不用畫蛇添足自行腦補成反面對立想法，不用翻成某人的爭論，後面沒有表示差異的修飾語來補充，因此整個One argument against my contention就是一個觀點反對我的觀點，這就樣而已
