But the formula is not without its imperfections, which have grown more pronounced in recent years. The publication has always been erudite and authoritative but not always lively and readable. A staleness, accompanied by a certain aversion to risk taking, has pervaded its pages for a long time.

不像其他還在藉由雜誌老闆砸錢的雜誌，這個期刊已經在獲利了，但是但這不代表它是完美的，近期缺點可說是越來越明顯。期刊本身內容博大精深，也很權威，但不夠活潑讀者讀不下去。伴隨著一種特定去逃避危險的過時思維體現在這雜誌上也有好一段日子了

解題方式：

Unlike most other serious journals, which drain money from their owners, the Review has long been (i)_____橘色標是修飾前方serious journals用的，所以可以知道這裡表示other serious journals都再丟錢，然後unlike下去之後表示前後對應物相反，所以對應物是other serious journals VS. the Review，既然相反，內容就要變成drain money VS. 不丟錢，所以Blank(i)就選個銅臭味最重的(A) lucrative

下一句看到but太好了，所以這句建立了不好的情緒，所以接下去看下一句沒有轉折表式The publication has always been erudite and (ii)_____ but not always lively and readable.這裡"總"邏輯也事要負面才對所以開始解等式erudite，(ii)_____ = but not lively and readable，but not 在一起負負得正，所以空格(ii)_____是正面情緒，但是頭大了(D)，(E)，(F)好像都是正的，怎麼辦，這當中會削掉一個(E) animated因為animated=lively，阿同一句話說雜誌總是生動的，但是總是不生動的，那這不就是自己打臉了，不合理阿，除非but前面的那句話always去掉才合理，這樣就代表雜誌內容生動但不總是生動，這樣就合理了有把程度差異(always)表示出來，但是這裡是兩句都有always那不就句內自行矛盾了，所以(E)先刪除

看到最後一句(iii)_____, accompanied by a certain aversion to risk taking, has pervaded its pages for a long time.整體邏輯應表現負面的好延續上一句的情緒，就像看連續句一樣中間沒轉折情緒就保持固定直到殺青，所以整體要負面的所以(G)先說掰掰，然後(H)An impulsiveness會發現跟accompanied by a certain aversion to risk taking衝突阿，衝動就是要去冒險，可是這個關係代名詞內的內容是不想冒險阿，所以(H)刪除，剩下(I)A staleness

最後(I)A staleness，去對應(F) trendy發現句子和句子間產生矛盾，如果(F)帶入空格二的話整體翻譯就變成：雜誌內容總是流行的，但是總是不活潑。過時題材已經刊登很久，這樣(F)就和(I)牴觸了，所以不選，躲以剩下唯一答案(D) authoritative
